_All assessments are complete.  Work on your study sheet to bring in to your exam, and on your review questions.  Review questions and exam outline are on the SCH 4U page, found by clicking on that icon in the box to the left.

_What most people call batteries are actually cells.  The first cells to change the energy produced by chemical reactions into electricity were wet cells, or galvanic,  or voltaic, or electrochemical cells.  Consult the text, p.695-700.
Homework:  p.700 #1-6

_Last quiz of the semester!  Yesterday, we discussed how to use the redox table.  Note Table 5 on p.680.
Homework:  Complete p.682 #24. 26; read p.685-686 and define bold terms

If you were not in class, work through the handout labelled red_pot_table_lesson on the unit 5 page of this site, using the text, p.674-682.  Answer p.678 #11; p.679 #19.
Balancing equations quiz tomorrow!

We practiced balancing redox equations.  There is a quiz on Thursday about this concept.

_Complex chemical reaction equations can sometimes be difficult to balance by methods learned in grade 10.  Oxidation numbers can be used to help balance these equations.  Consult p.671-673 for help.
Homework:  p.662 #19, 20; p.671 #5; p.673 #6-8

_Test day.  If you haven't handed in your explanation for the Acid-Base Challenge, then do so by Monday.
To access the document containing the exam outline and review, click on SCH4U on the left.

This period is about introducing you to oxidation numbers for elements, both alone and in compounds.  If you missed class, read p.652-656.  Record definitions of oxidation and reduction from p. 655 and note the “Did You Know?” in the margin.
Read p. 657-659 including margins.  Use Table 1 on p.658 to help you answer the homework.
Homeworkp. 656 #8, 9, 11; p.659 #12, 13, 15a, 17

_We worked on review questions for Friday's's test.  Acid-Base Titration Challenge due on tomorrow.

_We did an experiment today.  Complete the informal discussion and hand in by Thursday.
