No class.

Test day.  Complete your Water Quality Assignment and hand it in no later than Jan. 3, 2011.

The class time was used to review for the test on Friday.

We completed titrations to find the concentration of acetic acid in white and pickling vinegar.
Homework:  Complete the calculations and study for your test.

acid + base ---> salt + water
Stoichiometry can be used to determine concentrations and volumes of the reactants.  Refer to p.394-398 in your text.
Your Water Quality Assignment is due this Thursday, Dec. 16.  The school library website is only accessible from a school computer.
Homework:  p.398 #12ac, 13bc and read p.400-401

Read p.382-388.  Homework:  p.389 #6-8; p.393 #7-9

We discussed the properties of acids and bases, and the Arrhenius theory of acids and bases, and strong and weak acids and bases.  The text reference is p.370-375 and p.381-383.  The unit test will be next Thurs., Dec. 16, 2010.  Test review questions are on yesterday's blog.
Homework: p.379-380 #1, 2, 7, 8; p.393 #1-3, 5

For this class, there was a choice of what level to work at: on the Unit 4 page of this site, download the "soln stoich lesson" file, and if you struggled to understand stoichiometry then print out page 3; if you were OK with stoichiometry print page 1; if you want a challenge, print page 2.  Go through the handout and use your text for reference as stated on the handout.  Homework is also on the handout.  The unit test will be next Thursday, Dec.16, 2010.
Homework: p.379-380 #1, 2, 7, 8; p.393 #1-3, 5
Review for test:  p.410-413 #1-8, 12-15,17, 20, 23;  p.325-7 #1-5, 10, 18, 19;  p.365 #5, 20;  p.389 #9;  p.405 #3, 7, 15, 18

We performed the experiment and began work on the discussion questions.  The laboratory report is due on Fri., Dec. 10.  If you did not complete it, see your teacher about finishing at lunch time.

We discussed how to solve problems using the solubility table on p.334.
Homework:  Complete the "prediction" of the "Solutions Logic Puzzle Experiment" for class tomorrow so that you are able to complete the lab.  The instructions are found on the Unit 4 page of this site as "logic puz lab".
