_We discussed the properties of acids and bases, and the Arrhenius theory of acids and bases, and strong and weak acids and bases.  The text reference is p.370-375 and p.381-383.
The unit test will be next Wed., Dec.14.
The Water Quality Assignment is due Mon., Dec.19.
Homework: p.379-380 #1, 2, 7, 8; p.393 #2, 3

_For this class, there was a choice of what level to work at: on the Unit 4 page of this site, download the "soln stoich lesson" file, and if you struggled to understand stoichiometry then print out page 3; if you were OK with stoichiometry print page 1; if you want a challenge, print page 2.  Go through the handout and use your text for reference as stated on the handout.  Homework is also on the handout.
The Unit Test is Wed., Dec.14.
Test Review:  p.410-413 #1-8, 12-15,17, 20, 23;  p.325-7 #1-5, 10, 18, 19;  p.365 #5, 20;  p.389 #9;  p.405 #3, 7, 15, 18
Water Quality Assignment is due Monday, Dec. 19.  See the unit 4 page for a copy.

We discussed how to write the procedure of a qualitative analysis as steps or a flowchart.  See the "flowchart lesson" on the unit 4 page.  Additional questions are at the bottom of that lesson.  Homework is to complete your lab report for tomorrow.

_We performed the experiment and began work on the discussion questions.  Check the Unit 4 page of the site for hints on how to complete the lab report, in the document "logic puzzle report".  The laboratory report is due on Thurs., Dec.8.

_Students wrote a quiz on solubility.  We discussed how to solve problems using the solubility table on p.334.  If you were absent, get the note when you return.
Homework:  Complete the "prediction" of the "Solutions Logic Puzzle Experiment" for class tomorrow so that you are able to complete the lab.  The instructions are found on the Unit 4 page of this site as "logic puz lab".

_The handouts for this lesson are found on the unit 4 page of this site.  They are called "Dissolving Lesson" and "Net Ionic Eqn Lesson".  Text reference is p.334, 337-342.
Homework:  p.336 #6; p.347 #2, 3; study for quiz Monday

We answered the question on the handout "Let's Take the Fun Out of Rum and Coke" (also found on the unit 4 page of this site) in groups.
Homework:  Study for quiz tomorrow on solutions terminology, how substances dissolve, and concentration calculations.

We made a variety of solutions for use in our experiments.
Homework:  p.325-7 #11, 14, 21, 34;  read p.330-331 and answer p.336 #1, 2

We learned how to use volumetric flasks and to calculate properties of concentrated and dilute solutions.
Text reference is p.319-321.
Homework:  p.321 #25ac, 26ac; complete calculations for assigned solutions

_The text reference for parts per million concentration is p.311-312.  Molar concentration information is on p.313-315.
Homework:  p.312 #15a, 18;  p.316 #19cd, 20de, 22, 23
