We continued research for the project.  Any further research must be completed on your own time.  Rough notes are due on Wednesday, April 4.  Presentations will be Thursday, April 12.

We formed groups of 3 or 4 and began work on the project from p.157 in the text.  Continue the research at home.

We had a quiz on cells, then introduced cancerous cells, in which cell division is out of control and there is little time for interphase, during which normal cells grow, heal, and carry out their purpose in the body.  Consult p.48 for help, and record the definitions of bold words in your notes.  Watch the video for which there is a link on the biology page of this site.
Homework:  get your unit tests signed and answer p.55 #1-4

We drew onion cells undergoing mitosis, from prepared slides.
Homework:  get optics test signed; review cells and mitosis for quiz tomorrow

We learned about mitosis and cytokinesis.  There are two videos to watch.  The links are found on the biology unit page.  Consult your text, p.40-43.  We also completed an activity to model mitosis using Oreo Cookies.
Homework:  p.37 #2-4;  record the four checkpoints in the cell cycle from p.43;  p.44 #1-6; get optics unit test signed

1.       Cell Theory:  From p.29, write down the statements of cell theory, and define prokaryote and eukaryote.  Answer p. 32 #2-8.
2.       The Importance of Cell Division:  Read p.36-37, and record on the handout the three reasons for cell division to occur.  Complete the handout.  Answer p.37 #2-4.
3.      The Cell Cycle:  Read p.40 and draw the cell cycle diagram in your notes.  Name the three stages of the cell cycle.  State which of them is the longest, and which is the shortest by consulting the diagram.  Name the two stages of cell division and state briefly what happens during each.
Homework:      On this website, click on the SNC 2D biology unit.  Under the photos are four video links about prokaryote and eukaryote cells (“bacteria video”, “single-celled organisms”, etc.).  Click on each of the links and watch the videos.

We learned to use the microscopes.  We stained slides of onion cells to observe and draw.
Homework:  p.35 a-f, h, i

We took up the handout on the circulatory system.  We read p.30-32 about cell organelles, completed a diagram on cell structure, and worked on handouts about the function of each organelle.
Homework:  Complete the handouts.

No further science homework.  Complete the work assigned yesterday.

We started the new unit by completing a microviewer activity about the circulatory system.  Complete the homework for Wednesday;  tomorrow, we have OSSLT preparation.
Homework:  Sketch Fig.2, p.74;  define hierarchy, cell, tissue, organ, organ system;  copy Table 1, p.76, including a sketch of the tissues.
